United Methodist Alliance for Transgender Inclusion (UMATI)

Transfaith is delighted to announce our formal partnership with the United Methodist Alliance for Transgender Inclusion (UMATI).

"Although our primary ministry is more narrowly focused among trans* United Methodists, UMATI shares Transfaith's commitment to broad collaboration and intersectional work," stated C. Kristian Clauser, UMATI Chair. "We are excited to be working in partnership towards our common goal of making the world a more welcoming place for people of all gender identities."

The United Methodist Transgender Caucus (formerly the "Transgender Extension Ministry of the Reconciling Ministries Network") has also just announced its new name -- the United Methodist Alliance for Transgender Inclusion (UMATI).

A new UMATI Facebook Group is providing new opportunities for transgender United Methodists and allies to connect and stay informed through social media.

Meanwhile, UMATI's relationship as an "organizational partner" with Transfaith also marks a new moment in the development of the movement for transgender religious organizing.

"It's a new stage in our development as an organization and as a movement," says Transfaith Executive Director, Chris Paige, "We believe that we are stronger together and these new organizational partnerships are a way for us to be intentional about the ways that we collaborate."

Transfaith's organizational partners are groups that share a focus on the intersection of faith and transgender experience. The partnership is a commitment to stay in dialogue and support each other in some basic ways -- networking, content development, and publicity.

Transfaith has had years of informal personal relationships with leaders of a variety of organizations, including involvement in the founding of several transgender religious caucus groups.
